The Northern Lights are a breathtaking natural phenomenon, but they’re also unpredictable. Even during the best season, they might not appear for several days in a row, so planning your proposal around them can be really risky. No one can guarantee you’ll see them on a specific date. Auroras depend entirely on weather and solar activity, flexibility is key. Set aside at least three days together to give you the best possible chance to witness them. Avoid booking a big Northern Lights tour, sitting cramped in a bus, stopping on the roadside with cars passing and groups of people around you isn’t exactly the intimate setting you’d want for a proposal. We’ll also make sure to have a meaningful backup plan for a daytime proposal on your final day, just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate. Hide the ring (if you have one) : Your partner will most likely share a suitcase with you, so make sure to hide it in a place where they won't go looking for something. As a foreigner, a civil wedding ceremony in Lapland involves several steps and requires specific documentation (I will accompany you throughout the process) . If the idea of going through the paperwork is too daunting, a legal ceremony in your home country and a symbolic ceremony filled with meanings in Lapland is also an option. Documents Required 1. Both parties need valid passports. 2. Certificate of no impediments (CNI) : You need a document from your home country proving that you are legally free to marry. 3. All documents should be in English or Finnish. If they’re not, you may need to have them translated and possibly legalized or apostilled.
