5 advices for your pictures with a professional photographer

Updated: May 19

Your first photo session can be scary, but no need to worry ! I will give you 5 tips for your pictures with a professional photographer.

1. Have fun !

More fun you will have, more the pictures will look genuine.

The first purpose of a photo session is to get great pictures, but it is also a good time to have fun with your loved ones. You can talk to each other, laugh, fool around. I guaranty that 99% of the time, the greatest pictures are the ones where you had fun. If you have solo pictures, talk to the photographer, dance around, this is a moment for yourself.

2. Allow yourself to be confident

During the first pictures you can feel uneasy, you might start to think negatively and loose your confidence. Take a breath and don't panic. Giving yourself a pep talk before your photos can really help to boost your confidence in front of the camera.

Trust yourself and the photographer. If there is something looking wrong on the pictures, the photographer will tell you. The goal is to create the best images possible for you, the photographer have your best interest at heart. He/she will guide you into posing, you don't need to be a model to get great pictures!

3. Be yourself.

Your pictures should represent your personality, don't feel like you need to act or be someone you are not, be yourself ! If you are silly, be silly. No photographer will ever judge you. So don't be scared to put yourself out there.

4. Wear your favorite style.

You will feel most confident wearing your favorite look. It can be just a piece of clothing like a pair of pants, your favorite shirt or even a hairstyle or makeup. Wear what you are most confident and comfortable in.

Check with your photographer if there is a theme for your pictures and therefore a specific outfit needed.

You can also plan a few outfit to change during the photoshoot.

To create the bright and airy look we love, I would recommend wearing light or soft colors (white, light blue, cream, powder pink, beige, browns, etc...). The focus should be on you, not your clothes!

If you have a family or a couple photo session, color coordinating your outfits is a really great way to get beautiful pictures.

Side note if you booked a photoshoot with me in Lapland during winter :

I usually plan photo sessions outside, the nature in Lapland is so beautiful ! But as beautiful as it is, this is also a very hostile environment. In the winter the temperatures can be really cold. It is REALLY important that you dress appropriately. You will need : - A good pair of mittens (or gloves) - Warm winter shoes with warm socks

- Winter coat - A beanie

- A snow pant is recommended To sum up, protect yourself, you don’t want to cut short your photo session because you are freezing !

5. Photos with children, let's play!

It is hard for children to keep focus during the entire photo session. Best way to have relaxed parents and laughing kid is to play and interact with the child. If a kid is cranky, it's alright, we can take a break!

PS: Always tell your photographer if something is wrong, you should feel relaxed and happy during your photo session.
